The Allen Street Campus of Rutland Middle/High School has been composting since September bringing awareness to the necessity of this very important process of recycling our food waste, along with recycling in general. The students have been educating the whole school in the value of composting, and that it is a State of Vermont Law that started in July 2020. The best part of composting, aside from the value of protecting Vermont’s soil and water quality, is that ASC is in the process of building a compost system here at school along with the construction of a High Tunnel Greenhouse and our composting system will feed our Greenhouse with soil for growing vegetables, flowers, and other edible plants. This is a project based program that is basically being run by the students along with developing engagement with Community Partners. The students are invested in this on-going vision of growth in our city of Rutland.
